How to undo a bulk edit on Shopify
Shopify has no undo button for bulk edits or CSV imports. Here is what you can recover yourself, and how to make the next mistake a two-click fix.
You changed 300 prices in the bulk editor, ran a CSV import with the wrong column, or another app rewrote your titles. Shopify saves each change the moment it is made and keeps no earlier version of your product data, so there is no built-in way to roll it back.
That leaves three ways back, depending on what you have.
1. Re-import an export from before the change
If you exported your products to CSV before the edit (Products → Export), you can re-import that file with “Overwrite products with matching handles” ticked. Before you do:
- Delete every column from the old file except the handle, the variant identifiers (Option1 value, Variant SKU) and the fields you want to put back. Anything left in the file overwrites what is in your store now, including changes you made on purpose since the export.
- Check that the export really is from before the mistake. CSV files do not say when they were made; the file date on your computer is your best clue.
- Try the file on two or three products first by deleting the other rows, and check them in your admin.
Metafields, and anything the CSV format doesn’t include, cannot be restored this way.
2. Repeat the edit in reverse
For a simple change, reversing it can be quicker. If you raised every price by 10%, select the same products in the bulk editor and divide by 1.1. This only works when you know exactly which products were changed and every one was changed the same way. Rounding can leave prices a cent off, so check a few afterwards.
3. Ask the app that made the change
If an app, an integration or a freelancer made the change, ask them first. Some bulk-editing apps keep a log of their own jobs and can reverse them, but only for changes they made themselves.
Make the next one a two-click fix
An undo tool has to be installed before the mistake: it can only put back what it recorded. Revertly records every product change from the moment you install it, whoever makes it. To undo a bulk edit you choose the time window it happened in (for example “last hour”), optionally only prices or only tags, preview the products it will touch, and start.
A field is only put back if it still has the value the bad edit gave it, so fixes your team made since are left alone. Each product gets a result: restored, already matched, or skipped with the reason.
Before your next big edit
- Export your products to CSV and name the file with today’s date.
- Try the edit on a handful of products, and check them on your storefront.
- Make big changes when your store is quiet, so a mistake is seen by fewer customers.
